We looked at the Flour site too, very interesting. BUT to get the best price on P&P would mean having more flour than we could use in the 6 months it would keep for. Boo hoo!

shame we don't all live nearer, we could get a bulk delivery and split it!

Actually we're lucky to have a great wholefoods shop in Weymouth that sells a variety of flours including things like millet and spelt and gram flour, and also for even yummier flours down the road in Bridport there is a fantastic bakery that sells just about every bread you could ever wish for and they sell their flour too.  They get a lot of it from a mill in Dorset milled the traditional way.  So its all local :)

If you ask very nicely, the bakery at Tescos will give you 2ozs of fresh yeast free!!!Doves organic flour is nice ;but i have to agree with tim, hands make better bread

tim

Yeast? Yes, here they used to - until it became competitive??

Mrs Ava

Tim, just wanted to say, I bought some fresh yeast today and made a herby oniony tomato loaf to have with pasta, and a plain one for the kids, and for the first time ever I placed a tray in the bottom of the oven full of freshly boiled water.  What a difference it makes, the bread is soft, yet crispy and has a much softer, doughy texture, not at all dry, and it is as light as a feather!  Now the danger is, not eating the whole loaf between Ava and I infront of the fire tonite as the rotten weather comes in!

...and a plain one for the kids......

meany! :P

Mrs Ava

Gotta be joking!  They won't eat bread with 'bits' in it.  I have to disguise brown bread if it is really brown either by toasting or lashings of toppings.

NattyEm

mine are the opposite!  Complain if its not garlicy enough, and love bits.  I can't remember the last time we had white bread!
