Made l'onignon tarte tatin.  Found it extremely bland.  Any ideas on how to liven it up please.

Have just googled this recipe and found this, translated from French!
For the dough:
•    4 chipmunks
•    240g flour
•    120g butter
For the garnish:
•    1 kg onions
•    olive oil
•    salt, pepper, thyme, oregano, rosemary
•    a bit of powdered sugar
Stir quickly chipmunks with flour and butter cut into pieces.  Do not overwork the dough into a ball and leave.  Let stand at least 1 hour.
Meanwhile, mince the onions and melt with the oil in a dish on the plate and the oven (if it be dirty 2 course ......)
Add during cooking salt, sugar and grasses.

... I guess cheese, walnuts, or smoked salmon might be a good addition, if you can't find any chipmunks!

I use the Delia Smith recipe for this but, once the onions have had their intial cooking to soften and caramelise them I let them cool then chop a small log of goat's cheese all over them before putting on the pastry lid/base and baking it.

mmmm, sounds good.  I'll give that a bash - a bit like my roasted tomato tarte.

HA HA HA! I think I know what the "chipmunk" is (and surely not a small ground mammal) - it is a "suisse" which is like a little soft bland cheese that we eat here for desserts  ;D

I find that parmesan cheese and some pine nuts make for a good onion tart. You can also well caramelise the onions beforehand in a pan.
