I'm chopping and freezing bags of runner and french beans to save for later in the year. I don't want to blanch them first, does anyone else freeze their beans from just 'raw' ?

I never blanch beans just make sure they are clean before I freeze - I find this helps against that slightly musty taste that beans have when frozen, cooking straight from frozen also helps avoid that

Thanks Calendula, I will do that then.  :)

Oh blast! I have blanched and frozen bagsfull. Oh well, if we cover them in gravy no-one will complain I suppose. ;D
Smile, it confuses people.

Brilliant, thanks for this info - i was about to blanch loads of beans for the freezer, but now I know I don't need to bother, i'm a bit more motivated  ;)  ;D
Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened

I never blanch my beans either.Just wash, trim, bag and freeze.

I cook them from frozen for 3 minutes in the pressure cooker and they taste just like fresh.

Yes, we've all done it.

BUT - you will notice that ALL guide lines say blanch. For a very good reason - to slow down the rate of deterioration.

Most of the problems in blanching stem from not following the procedure in full. And steaming is much simpler that boiling.

??? I blanched a carrier bag full of green beans on Monday night but no idea if I did it correctly ?  Sliced and boiled for around 3 mins, then put in cold water and froze.
