More gooseberries
« on: May 14, 2005, 21:01:10 »
Hi all,

As I was saying in other threads,

I have baby gooseberries on my bushes. But today there were a handful of berries on the ground beneath them.
The bushes look to be thriving. Could the cold make them fall off? My spuds were damaged so I know the plot has been frosted. They don`t look pecked at.

I`ve made teepees of netting over each bush in case its birds. Should I be fleecing them against cold too?

Thanks, Col

I think this is common, like June drop with apples.  I think the plant just sheds to weaker fruits, leaving more energy to be devoted to the bigger babies.
