Allium Quattro F1 = super hype?
« on: March 15, 2014, 13:45:20 »
I was flicking through fothergills plant catalogue today and Allium Quattro F1 caught my eye. At first glance it looks like a chive plant so I was wondering why an F1 and had they been meddling with male sterility. On reading the bumf they are promoting it as an amazing edible, ornamental Allium. With, wait for it "Amazingly all 4 parts of the plant can be eaten", leaves-flowers-stalks-bulbs! It tastes like an onion with hints of garlic and "may help to improve Cardiovascular health and reduce Cholesterol levels."

Wow all that for just under 7 quid for a plant - what's postage on top, a fiver!!!!!
Looks like a chive to me.

Ah yes....I did notice them little while ago, but did skipped the page with kind of 'bah humbug' though in my head.. :drunken_smilie:
They look very much like chives on steroids...little bit 'beefier' than normal chives.
No idea if they really are anything special ...probably not.....but why do they need to be F1????? :BangHead:

Was 'super hype merchant' James Wong involved?  Sorry just being cynical!  Looks like you get all the same benefits from chive and garlic chive.

James Wong, no I don't think so on this occasion!

"Looks like you get all the same benefits from chive and garlic chive."
Looks that way to me too.
