Mrs Melbourne12 will be taking in to school home grown apples and home produced honey on Thursday to give to the non-Jewish children, who, poor things, don't get an extra holiday.

They're symbolic of wishing everyone a sweet new year.

I was once in Israel during Rosh Hashanah, and the range of special foods was amazing (and delicious).
