Topic: Error message windows XP pro

I used to be able to use map program etc on this laptop but all of a sudden it didn`t work. and came up with an error message. Have tried re-loading map prog but doesn`t work.
Also won`t autorun progs.

Can`t open auto exec progs or map prog.

Comes up with error:

16 Bit Windows Subsystem

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT.
The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications.
Choose `close` to terminate the application

Does anyone know what I have to do to correct this error?

Did the program run previously on windows XP?

if not then you may have to change the compatability and run the program as windows 95.

find the exe file that starts the program and right click on it.
select properties from the sub menu that appears.
Click on the compatability tab.
select run with windows 95 compatability.
apply and close.
try running and see if it works.
