Vorwerk Chicks
« on: February 01, 2010, 18:17:36 »
Hi everyone, we're new to the site but impressed with it so far  8)

We're planning on getting some chicks for the allotment, so far I've always had the brown ready-to-lay chicks but I fancy some different ones this time.  I've heard that Vorwerk are both friendly & lay well.  Does anyone out there have any knowledge of the breed?  The coop will be close to housing (needs to be a quiet breed) and we only want 4/5. Any suggestions/advice out there??

Not sure about Vorwerk chickens, but standard brown/ginger farmyard hens arent noisy due to being quite a confident bird and dont spook too easily. They're also very easy to tame and will follow you around like a puppy.Blackrocks are same and should lay around 6 eggs per week (daylight permitting).

The only breed i wouldnt recomend are the White Leghorns. They lay beautiful porcelain white eggs, but are skittish and noisy beggars!
Talk to the elbow-its got a point

No experience with Vorwerks. My Speckled Sussex are very quiet and docile.
