any idea what these could be?
« on: November 18, 2009, 10:21:41 »
Our Bangladeshi plotholders gave me some tiny chilli seedlings a couple of months ago. They were about 2" at the time.  I think they saved the seeds themselves, they don't know what the variety is except that it is hot!

I brought them home and they are growing well on the kitchen windowsill.

4 of them are tall (about 16") and one is only about 5". They are obviously two different varieties.

These are the tall ones, with a close-up of a flower

and this is the short one and close up of the flower

The short one already has at least six chillies on, green at the moment.

I know this is difficult, but does anyone recognise what they are?

They are very pretty Squash64 and would be interested in doing a seed swap at some time if you are interested.

I am sorry that I don't what type they are but am sure someone on here will come up with the answer soon.

I will try to save seeds from them if the chillies ripen and you can certainly have some.  (you will need to remind me!)

The little one looks like Prairie Fire to me. My PF plants usually reach about 6-8 inches and will keep producing all winter.

The purple flowered variety, I can't quite tell from the pic, is there any hint of fuzziness to the leaves or stalk?

Thanks Sholls.
I agree, the small one does look like Prairie Fire but knowing that the Bangladeshis like atomic heat, I'm not sure if it could be.

No, no sign of fuzziness on the purple one. The stem and leaf ribs on the underside are a sort of dark purple colour.

would agree with prairie fire on the other one and they may be small but can still pack a punch!!
i've got one that got treated pretty harshly last year and the pods had a good kick to them albeit bland on the flavour side
