The Show
« on: September 08, 2009, 09:17:10 »
Last Saturday was Newton Park Horticultural Society's 70th anniversary Show. I was there all day as a steward, and although it was a long, tiring day I thoroughly enjoyed it as you can see

Event's like this, and Saddad's Open Day, depend on people exhibiting, helping or just visiting for a look round.
It's great fun so if you don't already then why not support your local event next time.

Looks good Flighty, wish we had that much room and i agree about supporting any local show. We have had another finish this year with another  talking about it being the last year.
So come on people have a go.

Davy thanks, the hall was full so we may have a problem next year!
It's sad when that happens, which is why I always encourage people to have a go.

Nice show that Flighty would have liked to have seen a bit mor of the exhibits.

Regarding the Dahlia not having seen the 1st & 2nd I can't say for certain but I would guess it was down pointed because it was a bit young.

Its what I call a Wednesday flower i.e. they are either at their  peak the wednesday before the show or at their peak the wednesday after the show!

Been there ! done that! got the Tee shirt! so I know how frustrating it can be!

Another thing I tried not to do was to show a 'bi-colour' they are difficult to match!

Ok for a single bloom class but create a headache in multi flower class.

That tomato class must have taken some judging!

Well, I had a go for the first time Flighty - actually was forced into it by OH - and got two 2nds & a 3rd. And OH got a 2nd, a 3rd and a 1st which also won best handicraft in show!

I think I might have a go at the tomatoes next year!

Tee Gee thanks, and sorry about that but I only had the camera for a couple of hours first thing otherwise I would have been snapping all the exhibits!
That's what someone else said about the dahlia, which was a single flower exhibit.
There were some first class tomatoes and even the judge commented on the overall high standard.

Trevor very well done I'm impressed. It's always good to see first timers win some of the prizes.
Good for you! I'll be thinking long and hard about what I'm going to enter.

Just think - novice and first-timer at 66!

But the tomatoes were quite something....
