Advice needed re copy/paste
« on: September 18, 2004, 16:28:11 »
Can anyone tell me where I am going wrong please.

I have been trying to copy a recipe from R4A to a Recipes folder I have opened.  I managed it once, but now am having trouble copying and pasting.   I have hilighted the text of the recipe but cannot paste it to my folder.  Any ideas  ???

After hiliting the text did you remember to click `copy` before moving to your new folder? Select text, right click, left click on copy, go to new folder, right click, left click on paste.

Yes Hugh I did click on 'copy' but when I moved to my folder the 'paste' command was not hilighted so I couldn't use it.  Thanks anyway.

I copy things from A4R slightly differently, but it works. I highlight the text as you have done then Click on Edit then Click on Copy. Then I go to Start (I am using XPHome) and Click on Word Pad. Position the cursor where you want it, then Click on Edit and Paste should be highlit. Then I save the Word pad document in whatever folder I am using.
Click by the way is Single Left Click.

Have tried your method Eric (I too have XPHome) but can't get it to work.  I have already opened a Recipes folder with a separate folder within for the recipe I am trying to transfer.  I copy the recipe, go to the folder but 'paste' is not hilighted.

We have been here before haven't we :D  with me struggling and you trying to help me - sorry to be a pain :)

Pat
PS By the way, when you say WordPad - I do not have this - just a blue W in a box Microsoft Word

If you`re using XP, click START, then click `All programs`, then click `accessories` and you should find WordPad.

Ain't we all. I am fortunate as I keep saying in having two computer literate daughters to ask.

if you get confused by all the clicking things try this (unless you have a MAC !! )
highlight the text you wish to copy
(L-click & drag)
then press the Crtl key, hold it down & press C
go to where you want to paste it to and hold down Ctrl & then hit V

To copy all the text, click somewhere in what you want to copy
Hold down Ctrl & hit A (=select all )
then Ctrl -C (copy)
then ctrl -V (paste)

Am I right in thinking when you click 'copy' the mouse arrow has to be over the highlighted text so it knows which piece needs copying.  If I take it off there  paste isn't highlighted.

Try this…Put your cursor to the left of the text you want to copy, then hold down a left click and drag this will highlight the text, then let go it should still be highlighted, then place the cursor over any part of the highlighted section, then right click, this should bring up a window don’t press anything just roll your mouse so the cursor highlights copy then left click, you may think nothing has happened but it has.
Now go to where you want to paste the text then right click scroll down to highlight paste then left click and it should appear. ;D

Val. Roy has given you the ideal shortcut to copy/paste. Why not open up MS Word and type a few words and practice what he says?

If you see the url in the box, then your cut/paste is working fine. The problem is probably the location of the file you are trying to insert. Where are you directing the search to?
