Pulling Parsnips
« on: August 03, 2004, 13:16:23 »
Hi All,
Last autumn with the very dry conditions I found it very difficult to pull my parsnips. I either broke them off two-thirds down or I put the prong of the fork through them.

I found an easy way to get the parsnips out of the ground without damaging them.  You take a hand trowl and carefully make a small hole in the soil around the top of the parsnip.  You them fill the hole with water, wait 5 minutes and the parsnip can be lifted out of the ground without any problem.
Cheers,
Thomas

I find the best way to pull parsnips is to dress up like a lady carrot.
