Adopt a garden
« on: March 01, 2008, 08:29:53 »
Our council have decided to go with the footprint trust and try the 'Adopt a garden' scheme to put people on the allotment list in touch with people who can no longer manage their gardens. In return for the use of the garden the owners will get a bit of free produce and their garden nice and tidy.

The allotmenteers will get a free plot and prove they are suitable for an allotment when they come free. There are 500 on the waiting list and the initial trial will be for 50 gardens.

I know there are a lot of pitfalls but it is better than nothing . Lets hope it works.

My first plot 35 years ago was some old boys garden who couldn't manage. I am stll friends with his family.

sounds like a great idea to me as long as it is carefully monitored, many of the people who have a garden they cannot manage will love a bit of company as much as anything
