My damson planted in the autumn has now got large buds, you can see the white colour of the flower. So it looks like the buds are going to burst within the next week or so. Is that too early?

Maybe some varieties are different. Here, just north of Greater London, mine normally flower around April. I would think the cold weather might delay the flowering just a bit, even if you can see a little activity now.

I hope so it was white this morning. I'm about 60 miles north of you so I guess it should flower about the same time. It's Shropshire lad

you just have to watch any frost on the blossom else it won't be viable but being self fertile should be ok

It sounds very early, but the weather's all crazy these days anyway. if it was only planted last autumn, it might be better to discourage fruiting this year and give it a chance to develop a bit.
