« on: January 08, 2006, 12:19:36 »
Ive spotted a kingfisher in my garden. it has allready had 4 of my fish :( if i bought a net to cover the pond and remaining fish is there a risk that the kingfisher would get caught up in it? I know they are pretty things but so were my fish!  help!
thank you

Ensure it is a high visibilty net so that the Kingfisher can see it.

Thank you for taking the time to reply.I have bought a net from b and q and to be honest it doesn,t seem to be very high profile at all so i am now going to have to get my thinking cap on and make it a little more obvious Thank you for your advice

I don't know if it would work or not, but you could try fastening some CD's to the top of the net. The light reflecting off them would deter the birds.
(Unless they try to land on those instead!!!!)

Thank you whippett for your reply.I have bribed the grandchildren (with dinner and pudding of their choice) to attach strips of aluminium foil intermittently on the net! It looks quite attractive at night under the lights!looks like something out of star trek during the day though!

I had been thinking in terms of when we had put lawn seed down. We used to put undone video tapes across to stop the birds. But, getting up to date, my neighbour used the CD's - and they seemed to work.
I should think the strips of foil should do, too.
Good luck with it.
