So it begins!
« on: June 04, 2005, 16:07:39 »
Harvest time started today.  ;D

First pics are the first of my autumn planted broadies.  They have struggled a bit  this year as they were blown around.  PLus, once again, the mice have been at them, so I decided to pick the biggest of the pods, even tho the beans were still small.

Then came a couple of garlics.  As you can see, the white ones are still a long way off, but the purples are almost there, some are! (sorry about the focus  :-\)

Wanted to check them to see if the rot had gotten to them, so far so good!

Salad with our supper tonight!  A selection of lettuce, a whole young lollo rosso and then a snipping of various leaves, including flat leaf and curly wurly parsley!

The radish were planted in a spare patch inbetween the onions, and as you can see, the flea beetles have really made a meal of them, but they will go nicely with our supper.

Rhubarb tart tatin for dessert tonight!   Almost the last picking I think...might squeeze another couple in just to get some in the freezer.

Cucumber tasty king in a cloche on the allotment.  Doing okay but sadly lacking in water.  Wish we had onsight water!  Managed to give it a good couple of cans today though so hope to pick our first this time next weekend!

Nearly all the onions home now.  The red ones seem to be doing better against the rot so have left 30 up there to see how they go.  Shallots looking okay.  Still have a complete row of them there also, different ones sent to me by.....um...you Jim  :-\.  So far they are looking good!

The next snap is of the rotten ones.  These will be used up first - good excuse for a cook up!

Globe artichokes looking stunning on the plot.  Saving them to harvest a lot at once to take to Devon for a family doo in a couple of weeks.

And they may only be the size of marbles, but daughter number one will love them!  They were from a 'volunteer' I was finally able to dig out as I cleared the onions.

And finally, had the first 4 strawbs from the plot today - some not quite as red as they could be, but I just knew number one daughter would scoff them, and she did!

And a close up of the globe.  I think I would grow these in my garden, they are so glamerous.  I am definately going to leave a couple to open fully.

Wonderfull EJ. I though I was doing well untill I saw that lot of yours!

I have had Rhubarb (2 or 3 pickings already this year), lettuce, a few leaves of rocket, and some radishes. However it will not be long before the strawberries start ripening!  ;D Mmmm!

After looking at your produce. I haven't planted enough and I don't have enough space! Bring on a second allotment!

EJ- well done!

oh yum!

We had broadies for dinner last night - absolutely lovely. Didn't have time to take a pic as the quiche was nearly ready by the time I'd picked and podded them. (homemade quiche of course!)
gone to pot :D
