Topic: Streptocarpus cuttings

Any tips, please? I potted up sections of leaf and put them in a mini propagator on the windowsill (south-east facing) about 3 weeks ago but they have all gone brown.

Shame they are such lovely plants, one of my favourites  I've only grown them from leaf cuttings twice. The first time was because I knocked a young leaf off, I just popped the stalk end into a pot of multipurpose and it seemed to root well enough and make little bits of plants ok, I didn't pot them up individually just left it grow into a big plant. The second time I cut sections of leaves and inserted them into compost, sorry I can't remember if I covered them, I guess I did to conserve moisture. I put the pots on a north facing windowsill, they did seem to take forever before they started producing little baby plants.

I am having a go with leaf cuttings set them up on the 28th June, lost about 20% of them but the remainder seem to have taken although there are no signs of plantlets yet.

I have a full set of slides showing doing step leaf cuttings but I will try and briefly give details of my . Choose a medium size leaf from a plant watered the day  before. I cut down the centre so as to have two half, I then cut in approx. 1in lengths these are put on edge, slightly buried in a mixture of perlite and peat based compost 50 % of each. Water well with a rose and just wait . I do not give them extra heat or polythene bags but plenty on sunlight. There form many new plants on each piece and it is worth separating them to get better plants. I am retiring from giving talks and have many slides done for giving talks if any one is interested.
