Oh no! Pumpkin broken away from stem
« on: August 26, 2013, 18:45:24 »
Pumpkin - which is still green but a reasonable size came completely away from stem when I tried to gently lift it clear of the leaves.

What shall I do with it now. It still needs ripening I think.

Also, should I be cutting off squash and pumpkin leaves so they are more exposed to the sun?

I hope it will ripen for you, otherwise you can treat it as a summer squash and eat it. What sort is it?
I've just started stopping our winter butternuts so they ripen the ones on.  :happy7:

Oh I haveo no idea what sort. It was just in a packet of mixed squash seeds but looks like a halloween pumpkin.

How do I 'stop' the rest of the plants so they divert energy into current fruits? Do I take of alltge flowers?

To stop them I just look for the end (it usually has a few tendrils) and twist it off. I give them to an Italian who makes a batter and cooks them.
