Tim,

thanks for the reply, I may give them ago, you dont need to grow them from seed though, I have seen plants for sale in catalogues for £24.50 for both male and female ones

You can get self fertile ones now too, so you only need one (and they are pretty rampant).
No fruit tree knowingly left un-tried. http://abseeds.blogspot.com/

Mum has 2 and boy do they romp away!  Covered in wonderful cream white flowers in spring, but in the....however many millions of years she has had them....never a fruit!  I have grown loads from seed and am planning to take them up to the plot to grow over my arbour  8)

I have 6 (I think!) on my allotment and 2 in my garden.  The two in the garden are male and female and do very well - loads of fruit, but have had them ten or so years and they are in a very warm part of the garden, facing south, that gets hardly any wind.  The ones on the allotment are self fertile (Jenny and another variety I'll have to check up on).  Two are in containers and don'do much other than grow fairly well and produce no fruit.  The others are in the ground.  These do very well and i have to cut at least five or six feet of growth off of each in the Autumn or they'd take over the entire plot.  Fruit is small but delicious and makes great preserves.

Anyway, hope this is of use.
