Another Grumpy Old Git Here
« on: March 14, 2005, 11:59:36 »
I’m not sure if I speak for other newbie’s here but I am struggling to comprehend posts containing abbreviations, I know I am guilty to a point of same BTW and will try not to be so lazy in future. :)

This gets so frustrating and annoying to the point where I lose interest in the posts. >:(

Here are a few examples although I’m not looking for their meaning as the posts are now history. ::)

Grump over. :P

B&Bs  ::)
BF&B  ::)
E&OE ::)
KG     ::)
PC     ::)
Uhps  ::)

Ah Roy, I also have problems understanding some abbreviations.  The first one I didn't get for yonks was LOL.  I kept thinking my chum was sending me lots of love!  Turned out she didn't love me at all and was merely laughing!  Pah.

Roy,

I haven't got a clue as to the meaning of any of those letters but we could give them the following meanings.

B&Bs   = Bed and Breakfasts ???
BF&B  = Best Food and ?? (your guess is as good as mine)
E&OE = Eat and over eat ????
KG   = King George (as in potatoes) ???
PC    = Personal computer ??
Uhps  = Until he passed away ???

 ;) ???
Enjoy today to the full.  You are not sure of a tomorrow.

BF&B = Blood Fish and Bone?
KG = Kitchen Garden? (Magazine)

And I would assume that PC is Personal Computer.

I'm as lost as you with the others  :-\
Lottie-less until I can afford a house with it's own garden.

E&EO = errors and omissions excepted. But I don't see a need for it on here.
KG = Kitchen Garden.
Uhps = Under huts potatoes sprout.
BF&B = ****** Fools & Bodgers.

It does get very annoying and frustrating these days when text talk seems to be taking over!  Next they'll be teaching it in schools.  >:(

OK ( sorry - alright) - I promise that I won't use E&OE again, even though it has been common currency in legal & general use since 1932. At least.
For Roy & Ken, I'll use "I have offered this information, believing it to be true, but I am wide open to suggestions as to how it might be improved or corrected"

And that rules out
PS
PM
pic
etc
ie
et al
eg
GP
BC etc.??

Oh, sorry - "and other things of the same kind."

Things like LOL, which I have never understood, I just accept as a smiley.
OH, OTOH - and other things of the same kind are, for the oldies (the older generation), a good test of the imagination?

hehe! ("I am having a quiet chuckle!!")

Not so dumb Emma ;) Ken said "E&EO = errors and omissions excepted. But I don't see a need for it on here." which to me is E&OE ???

So what does E&EO stand for ??? and what does it have to do with Legal and General ???
