Last year I sowed some 24th October, the were planted out under "bottle" cloches 28th December but didn't do very much until the spring. If you're hoping for some winter lettuce, you may be cutting it a bit fine, but at least youll have an early start for next year  ;)

Do you have a greenhouse?  In the Dobies 2011 catalogue they have a lettuce called Rosetta, which you can sow from August-January.  It is a 'dark green butterhead with excellent flavour and good downy mildew resistance.'

We were thinking of giving it a try.
