One dead hen?
« on: August 05, 2008, 19:42:25 »
This morning I was informed that one of my White Leghorns was found dead in the henhouse.  It was in the nest box with its head down.  Only 15months old.  Others seem OK.  No sign of blood to indicate vermin.  Any ideas?

Oh I am so sorry, had she lost weight? thinking tapeworms.
could be egg bound or just a heart attack.
Could she have been henpecked by the others ? keeping her from food and water? a sick hen will go into a nest box to die.

Oh dear - what a shame - I am dreading this happening to mine - as it surely will at some stage - but still sad all the same.

I think sometimes it just happens.....we got four pol.......8 months later 2 had passed on with what seemed natural causes (nothing untoward) the other two fine and they now have two sisters to play with who also doing well had the new two for over a year.....

Not very helpful but there was nothing obvious with our two so like to think natural causes....

It is awful though - i was gutted. :'(
