..... i made loads of fab labels cutting up empty milk bottles. Either the white or clear plastic ones will do. Cut into strips then cut the end into a V to insert into plant pots. Label with permanent black marker pen and the writing won't fade!

Permanant pen can wash off and fade. What you need if you can get it is a freezer marker. They withstand anything. I know, I labelled some tupperware and it wont budge now >:( Still use milk bottle bit though.
