Borlotti Beans--- Where are they?
« on: August 16, 2005, 14:07:25 »
I have a couple of rows of climbing borlotti beans.

They have grown past their supports... over 7 feet tall.  But I have yet to pick a single bean.   There has been flowers, but not a single bean!  :(

I'm in london. and they have been in the ground since the middle of may.

Will I have beans this year?

Funny that, I'm having the same problem with them, but not the other beans.

Mine have beans on already - kinda like smooth speckled runners

Tell me about it... I have yin/yang beans, chickpeas and purple beens all with pods.  The one bean I wanted the most giving me nothing.  ???

Also found that my Florence fennel are ready to bolt.    >:(

My dwarf borlottis are in an advanced stage of ripening. This weekend I'll dig up the plants and hang them upside down from the rotary drier. Much to the neighbour's curiosity...

My climbing borlottis however, in common with all my climbing French beans, are very slow. Some aren't even at the top of their canes...! I'll be lucky if I get any pods before the first frost...

My borlotti beans are looking pathetic too, and I lost 2 plants to the slugs.  I think I'll follow your example Martha and perhaps they'll produce something if I complain about them here.......

Hi,

I'm growing climbing borlotti beans for the first time - got a few beans - green with red marks.

Can someone tell me when to pick them and how to cook them ?

thanks,Gail
