Rail fares
« on: August 14, 2012, 22:41:26 »
Another hike, so lucky we don't have to commute.

We do go into our local town, the centre of which is about 2-3 miles away. If we take the car - £1.50 parking for under the hour in which time we can do all the odds and bobs we need to do, plus the petrol and usual motoring add ons for one hour.

If we go green and leave the car at home, for the two of us on the bus in and home again £8.  ???

Something is going sadly wrong with the transport system or is it a capitive audience has little choice  >:(

There's a problem with railways. They're humungously uneconomic.  Even some of the pioneering Victorians went bust.  So you either have to subsidise them heavily, or you have to pay.

Right now, we're doing some of each.
