hens, going on holiday
« on: June 12, 2007, 20:55:50 »
i am away for two days(one night) and worried about leaving my chicks for first time)
, they have an open run and an enclosed run, will they be ok if i shut them in enclosed run with lots of food and water?, as i might have a problm getting someon to look after them!

They should be fine - i have left mine for the same amount of time.  I usually leave some water in extra containers in case anything happens to the main one.

I agree with Marymary, extra containers and they will be fine, in a enclosed run. A hen can survive a day without food but not water. You could always put a cabbage in the run as well extra for them to peck at?

Is the run fox-proof?

I never leave my chickens out in a run unsupervised - far too 'chicken'  ;D

If their shed is well ventilated and you leave them plenty of water then they should be ok inside for a couple of days.

When i have left mine I have actually locked them in their shed - they don't really seem to mind & I remind them about all their poor sisters who live in cages & tell them they should be jolly grateful for their lovely big house & run which they have most of the time.  :)
