Bumper crop of Borlotti beans
« on: October 06, 2006, 14:52:37 »
But I am not sure of the best way to dry them. The ones that I have tried to dry out of the pod have taken on a brown tinge.

Should they be left in the pod to dry?

Help gratefully received.

Yes ermck if you want to store dry beans leave them as long as you can on the plant, then harvest and let them dry in the pod (until the pod is brown and papery), then shell out the beans.

Or for a real treat eat the beans 'fresh' out of the pliable pods - they only need a short boil :)

Thanks SS.

Cant leave on the plant because the unbelievable foliage meant these canes collapsed - currently on the floor!

I shall strip the pods and dry in the garage.

I'll also give them a go when young.

Thanks again.

Mike
