Title: Tunnel hoops
Post by: philandjan on May 06, 2005, 16:13:57
We have just started (from scratch) and are wondering what everybody uses for tunnel hoops. We've got loads of cheap fleece but nothing to suspend it over.

Everywhere we look, plots seem to have hundreds of yellow or blue hoops. Do they grow?

Thanks for the doubtless deluge of ideas!

Go to your nearest Plumbing Stockist and have a look at the polypropylene water pipes. That is what most people use for tunnel hoops after a certain Hamilton type person made the suggestion.

Better still, keep an eye out for it in skips  :)

I spent ages looking in skips and at roadworks etc. Ended up buying some 20mm water pipe from Wickes' and 15mm copper pipe fits in just right to act as stakes into the ground. it was about £10 for 25metres.

I've used bamboo canes this year - couldn't scrounge enough pipe!  Seems to work - the cross-piece fixed to the uprights with a short stretch of hose so there's no rough ends.

But I've also picked up a couple of dozen balloon sticks from a local burger joint - 15 inch plastic sticks with a nice flat disk that the balloon gets tied into.  I'm guessing they'll nake good suuports for fleece?  We'll see this weekend!

All best - Gavin

Jerry
Thanks for a brilliant idea, especially as we have just removed 25 metres of galvanised wire from some old chicken wire fencing!
