Title: It's a load of compost
Post by: kenkew on April 19, 2005, 16:50:14
Got a thingy through the letter box to say the local tip has another mound of compost. This is recycled garden stuff ground-up, passed through a heating system to kill bugg-yerts and then treated with organic goodies. So, off pops I down to tip and got an eye full of this.

So, armed with a sack or two I loaded up.

Got to plot and spread it round a bit. Me thinks I'll be going for a bit more.

Envy!!

How much, Ken? The heating process, alone, can't be cheap?

We're only just having our green stuff collected, so it'll be a year or two before it's offered back to us?

I took around 20 bags and I'm off for more.
'Green-bins' from households are collected every 2 weeks here so the process will be an on going one throughout the year from now on.
Oh! It's free by the way.  :)

Huh!!

Can you see them giving it away over here??

Maybe you could set up an export business!

It's all to do with the great recycling scheme of things. Pity it's not more wide spread. If people could get free compo it might encourage better recycling.

We can BUY composted green waste from the local tip £2.50/bag as I remember. I don't know what it's like as I've never bought any.

I think its about the same price here (£2-50) I wondered was it worth the money.

You can buy it for £1 a bag in Nottingham but I'm tempted to have a look at Derby as their's is Soil Association approved!!

Wow. jealous. My council charges to collect green waste. I don't think they'll be giving the compost away for free!

I bought 5 x 40L bags from our local tip for £2 each. Less smelly and easier than manure till my compost heap starts producing!

I've been so jealous, I've been doing a net search for local cheap compost and have come up with nothing. My local council collects green waste (charging £4 for up to 20 bags). But doesn't seem to want to give it back to us.
