Title: Once dampening off starts....
Post by: aquilegia on April 04, 2005, 14:11:23
Is there any way of stopping it?

A few of my red sprouts have started to keel over. They were in rather damp compost in a plastic bag. So I suspect dampening off, although it might just be where they've hit the bag.

I potted them up in much drier compost and didn't water them. (the compost was damp, but not soggy).

Might this stop the dampening off? Is there anything else I could do? Or should I just throw them out?

I have managed, in the past, to save seedlings by removing all infected ones and surrounding compost. I think all you can do now, is cross your fingers and pray! Good luck  Lottie

I'd stick with them a bit longer.  Some of my basils were getting mouldy and not growing (the Vermiculite on top that is) so I thought I'd have to repot them but a checked them yesterday and they looked much more alert.  It must have been the sunshine that cheered em up  :)
