I'm not sure if it is country wide but when I popped into our localish Morrisons yesterday I couldn't see any used flower buckets for sale. When I asked if they had any out back, the guy was happy to go and get me a nice size bundle of about 30, apparently they are just being thrown away. I think the cashier thought I was trying to pull a fast one, but when she called over a manager he confirmed they were for free.

our local morrisons they charge 20p each for them you defo had a bargin

Lincoln Morrison's does ten buckets for 99p
Thou last year we got a trolley full for three quid as they wanted rid of a load in back room!

Waitrose give them away too - or some do at any rate.
I got 30 last year. Raised eyebrows on the tube, was in my suit...

Do the flowers all come in a bucket from the supplier, so a continual supply?
Why don't they return them to the supplier, doesn't make sense to me. I'm talking from an environmental perspective with that comment.

Yes flowers arrive in buckets with a small amount of water to keep them fresh, but for some reason they don't send them back to be reused?!!! You're right it doesn't make sense, perhaps it works out cheaper to use new rather than reuse or recycle them?
I wonder if they were giving them away for free following the extra flowers for Mother's day, but charge for them when they don't have so many to shift?

I'm using some of mine for early potatoes and I want to try a few for some carrots as they have quite a good depth. I also want some for tomatoes and chillies, pretty much anything you would want to put in a 10-12 litre pot. They need holes for drainage and they aren't that robust but for free or 20p each they are a good bargain.

One store told me they pay a reclaiming/ collection charge...so happy for us to take.
One daughter works for another company and the flowers come in a special flat container then they put in buckets...to reduce footprint :)

Several companies do flower buckets. Coop have them as well.
Local wyevale here also have a recycling of flowerpots and are happy if you help yourself.
I am also not clear why they do not recycle them. However I expect a lot of the flowers come from Holland so expect the vehicles to be full of something else for the return journey.
They sell them for almost nothing so expect it cost more to send them back.
I am sure supermarkets waste a lot of plastic, it annoys me we not longer can get free plastic bags and yet things come in multiple layers of unnecessary plastic.
