I Intend to order a range of perennial plants and it seems that the wholesalers like to deliver around this time of year and then plant immediately, when I would have thought that early spring would have been just as productive when the ground is warming up?
Whats your verdict on this as i would much rather wait than endanger my purchases.

Get them now and they've got all winter to establish the root systems. Plants often do a lot of underground growth during the winter

As Robert says now is the best time. The soil at the moment is still warm and the plants will start to for new roots before the cold sets in.
