Title: Radishes
Post by: Vony on July 23, 2013, 05:55:37
Hot radishes.? My father used to grow them on his allotment and they were really hot. I think they were longer in shape, half white and half red. This week with salad, the red ones are virtual]y tasteless. Are the hot ones not grown commercially any more.  :sad10:

You might like to grow Black radish - this is often grown here in France, and is very winter hardy so is popular in autumn and winter. It produces a large black coloured root a little like an elongated turnip, and has nice hot flesh which is great grated up, or even very thinly sliced.

For normal radish, I think the hotness has something to do with the amount of water they get?

Does anyone know what size to harvest rat-tailed radishes at? I've been told 5-6mm, is that right?

I'm not sure mine are going to get that long, but maybe I should let them grow a bit bigger.
