Title: A4A Christmas Donation to Thrive
Post by: Flighty on October 27, 2012, 12:49:27
I have now set up this JustGiving page, which will remain open until early in the New Year, where members can donate to Thrive, the charity using gardening and horticulture to change the lives of disabled people.

https://www.justgiving.com/a4adonations12/

Please donate the amount you want to give, however small, and after doing so you'll see that you can add a message to your donation, change your name or even make it and the amount anonymous if you wish.
Don't forget the Gift Aid if you're a UK taxpayer.

Any problems please either comment here or, if you prefer, send me a PM.

Ordinary lives, ordinary people

Rebecca; a lovely teenager with a sweet smile is the youngest of three sisters, it’s just that she has Downs syndrome.  Before coming to Thrive she was struggling with school and unsettled at home. Thanks to Thrive’s practical approach to learning in a garden, Rebecca has become a happy and enthusiastic member of her gardening group and she has built up her skills. She now loves being "one of the girls" and talking about school and what she’s planning next for her garden

Tom was 18 when a car accident nearly killed him. Thrive’s therapists understood Tom’s needs and set about teaching him how to overcome his disabilities. Through Thrive’s "Working it Out" Programme Tom gained a City and Guilds Level 1 Certificate in Work Based Horticulture. Today Tom has a job he loves as a gardener, he is independent and he will be 25 in November 2011

Kenneth Macdonald was a high flyer. But his life changed dramatically when he was badly beaten by thugs on a trip back to his native New Zealand to see his sick mother. Kenneth’s brain injury meant that he was in hospital for three months and faced a long period of rehabilitation following the horrendous attack.
"No one will employ me now in a stressful job," he says matter-of-factly. "But Thrive has given me a chance to re-train and do something completely different."

For more information about Thrive their website is at http://www.thrive.org.uk

I got an email this morning asking if I would pass this message on  -

Thank you very much for choosing Thrive to benefit from your 2012 Christmas charity gift.
Gardening brings profound change to people recovering from stroke or living with heart disease, also those coping with physical disabilities, sight loss, recovering from an accident or coping with early stage dementia - Thrive really can change peoples lives.
Everyone at Thrive really appreciates your support. Thrive relies on charitable donations to support our work and to have groups like yours spreading the word undoubtedly works.
Best wishes, Tina Rhodes, Fundraising Assistant.

Been thinking of ways we can make our bumps more interesting.

Anybody care to add a joke or perhaps a verse they like???

I thought this may ring a bell with a few of us

A's for arthritis;
B's the bad back,
C's the chest pains, perhaps car-di-ac?
D is for dental decay and decline,
E is for eyesight, can't read that top line!
F is for fixtures and fluid retention,
G is for gas which I'd rather not mention.
H high blood pressure--I'd rather it low;
I for incisions with scars you can show.
J is for joints, out of socket, won't mend,
K is for knees that crack when they bend .
L 's for libido, what happened to sex?
M is for memory, I forget what comes next.
N is neuralgia, in nerves way down low;
O is for osteo, bones that don't grow!
P for prescriptions, I have quite a few, just give me a pill and I'll be good as new!
Q is for queasy, is it fatal or flu?
R is for reflux, one meal turns to two.
S is for sleepless nights, counting my fears,
T is for Tinnitus; bells in my ears!
U is for urinary; troubles with flow; V for vertigo, that's 'dizzy,' you know.
W for worry, now what's going 'round?
X is for X ray, and what might be found.
Y for another year I'm left here behind,
Z is for zest I still have-- in my mind!

Two members were sending cheques direct so it's likely that the total is at least £200.
Many thanks to everyone who has donated so far.

I just noticed that the first post is not showing at the top of the second page as it used to do for a sticky...
Is this something the mods can do or is it for Dan to look into?
Title: Re: A4A Christmas Donation to Thrive

I have had a look in profile settings and I cannot see how to change it for our personal settings.  I think that it is to do with the new forum and that is down to Dan, but I am the least techy of the mods so there may be someone else can help.

Xmas cards look good, (Hope I will get one), will donate soon I hope, but money is a bit short this year.  Hopefully will win the lottery tonight, dream on, and then I will donate.  Not sure I want to give bank details on the internet, even though overdrawn at bank. How does this work, please.

As much as I want to get members of A4A to donate you should not do so if you can not afford it.

To donate go to ....

https://www.justgiving.com/a4adonations12/

Please donate the amount you want to give, however small, and after doing so you'll see that you can add a message to your donation, change your name or even make it and the amount anonymous if you wish.
Don't forget the Gift Aid if you're a UK taxpayer.

However if you wish to not use your bank details on the web you could always post a donation either direct to Thrive or if you pm Flighty you could post it to him and he will add the donation for you.

Please do not  let anyone be put off  because there are some biggish donations, but it just happens that the people who have donated maybe feeling a bit flush at the moment. It is not necessary to put how much you donate, and 5 X 2 = 10 and that is worth just as much as 1 x 10 (or at least it was when I was at school!)
There are 12,000 members of this forum, imagine if they all gave a quid!!!
A lot of people are feeling the pinch this year, and if it is not easy for you to donate, then please do not until the time is right for you! (Come the revolution!!!)

It should appear on the donation page more or less instantly but allow a few minutes at busy times.

Make sure you have the space between THRI65 and the £ sign ... note it is thri65 not thr165

If it has not arrived by now I would try creating a new message rather than resending the other one.

I don't really understand my mobile phone, only used for emergencies, hope I have texted £1, sorry it can't be more. Anyone know the number to check my credit on my phone, vodafone, as have lost the booklet.  OH helped me to do this, so hope it works.  So many good charities this year, poor donkeys, Salvation Army and homeless people.  Good luck with these donations everyone.  :sunny: :sunny: :sunny:

Sorry Borlotti I can't help with the phone number to check. But looking at the Just giving page https://www.justgiving.com/a4adonations12/ a £1 donation was made by mobile phone yesterday by an anonymous giver. It might be yours?

To donate go to ....

https://www.justgiving.com/a4adonations12/

Please donate the amount you want to give, however small, and after doing so you'll see that you can add a message to your donation, change your name or even make it and the amount anonymous if you wish.
Don't forget the Gift Aid if you're a UK taxpayer.

However if you wish to not use your bank details on the web you could always post a donation either direct to Thrive or if you pm Flighty you could post it to him and he will add the donation for you.

Or to donate by text ....

Create a new message to be sent to 70070

In the message put:

To send one pound  put THRI65 £1

To send two pounds put  THRI65 £2

To send five pounds put THRI65 £5

Please note the amount you donate will be added to your bill or taken from your credit balance of your phone.
You will get a text back with a link in it if you want to gift aid it or add your name to the donation

MANY THANKS EVERYONE

I received an email from Tina at Thrive yesterday to say...Thank you again for the Christmas donations from A4A members, can you please pass on our gratitude to them. Best wishes for 2013.

The JustGiving page will remain open to late on Sunday for anyone who would still like to make a donation.

Thanks for organising this, everyone. It helps to know that, even when times are hard, people still think about those less fortunate xx
