Title: Best supplier for autumn raspberries?
Post by: caroline7758 on September 23, 2012, 12:52:15
I want to buy some new plants to replace my 6 year old ones which are showing signs of fungal rot. (Yes, I'm going to put the new ones in a different place!). I think I got the old ones from Ken Muir- does anyone have any other recommendations for supplier, and can you remind me whether it's best to plant them in autumn or spring?
Thanks.

Tried Chris Bowers, most of the canes survived, but some unusual 'purple' raspberries I bought to try never established so not sure I'd recommend overall. Sorry not a positive recommendation! The only other place I've bought raspberries from was Lidl, they looked weedy to start with but were cheap and established well.

We got our summer and autumn fruiting Raspberry's and asparagus crowns from Pomona fruits last October and I am very pleased with them all  , they arrived in great condition and well wrapped I was a bit concerned as it was a pre paid two part order , canes in October and asparagus crowns followed later in I think April or may but they spot on a great company.

http://www.cooltemperate.co.uk/raspberries.shtml this is where i'm getting mine from soon (glen coe - the new purple one and the apparently best all-rounder, polka)   as they're not too far from me. they're a permaculture nursery and have bought my asian pear and a few other things from there earlier this year and have had very excellent advice from the grower, phil there.

unfortunately, the delivery will be a bit too dear for you just for the rasps, but maybe combine it with a special trip down south might help :drunken_smilie:

Another vote for Blackmoor here.

And if you're a member of Costco, or know someone who is, they have some really lovely quality soft fruit bushes (and fruit trees) at the right times for planting.

I use RV rogers of Pickering for nearly all my fruit.
If you order and arrange to collect it will save postage (not sure how far Tadcaster is to Pickering petrol wise!)
The nursery itself is a bit of a disappointment because everything is grown elsewhere so they are mail order specialists.
