Title: Make you hungry?

Are they stored in the dark? I have never had such a bumper crop of apples this year, more than I or my neighbours could eat but was unsure of whether they would store of not, so they landed up on the compost heap! Do you pick them slightly unripe?

Post by: Palustris on January 04, 2004, 18:34:14: These are a Cox type (wich is as far as the expert would go in identifying them). They are picked slightly under ripe and stored in a frost free shed in the dark in apple boxes lined with paper. Our Sunset apples do not keep either. The Bramleys are the ones just in picture to the right. they keep for a very long time. Rev Wilkes is as good at keeping too. Most of our otherapples are non keepers, We use the windfalls and wormed and damaged as apple juice, so not a lot of waste.
