Title: Whoops! Pea mix up!
Post by: gerbera on May 20, 2012, 11:56:53
I have been pre-chitting my peas/sugar snaps/mangetout this year with good germination and speedy growth when transplanted.

However, I got a little over-zealous and chitted 2 varieties (sugar snap and mange tout) in the same tray....which when I 'rinsed' peas....got rather mixed up! ::) They're sprouted nicely...but I am left with a dilemma. Do I go for it and have a mixed row on the plot (with no way of telling which is which) or do I harvest them young, as pea shoots for my salad and re-sow (in separate trays this time)?  ???

Does it matter if they are mixed, once you eat them your stomach will not notice any difference. ;D

Even if you grow them all mixed together..it doesn't matter as you will be able to tell the pea pods easily apart. Sugar snap types will soon start bulking up and grow fatter and mangetout will be flat without much 'flesh' inside the pods.
Once you much few raw..just to trial them  ;)..you'll soon recognise them apart.. ;D
