Title: Lidl living salad - a bargain!
Post by: tricia on April 14, 2012, 12:20:14
For 99p I have 20 small groups of salad planted outside under a fleece cloche. They will give me (and my friends!) salad through till July when I'll need the space for other veggies.

I'm currently 'disabled' with a painful left elbow so it was a team effort - I separated the pack into 20 'portions', used my long handled dibber to make the holes and my wonderful friend and helper, Rebecca, firmed them into their respective holes. Job done.

This is my third year using this method to grow cut and come again salad and have - maybe oddly - never had any problems with slugs and snails munching them.

I did this a couple of years ago and it worked a treat. They establish right away with huge numbers of salad leaves keeping going from april to july.

We do it too.  Usually as a stop gap but then it goes on for ages

I got mine from Booths. I don't know if they are the same as Lidl's. Mine are green & red lettuce. If they are different it would be a good excuse to call at Lidls ;D.

Thanks Shirl. Perhaps a trip to Sainsbury's then if they have a different mix.

That's a good idea - I saw some on special offer in our co op, 75p, they looked healthy enough, but I just didn't want to eat them at the time, I never thought of planting them  ::)
Next time!
