Has anyone tried Wickes potting compost. It says it has high nutrients.

I haven't used it for a couple of years but it was OK then. I switched to peat free New Horizon which isn't as cheap...

I use it every year. Always been very good. Several plot holders on my site also buy it.
I bought some this week. 4 bags for £13. Last year it was £12.

I always used to use Murphys but since then have not found one I really like.
The price is going up and the bags are getting smaller.

I did read a review saying this year's compost was not as good as it has been with a lot of woody material in it.
As I need to get some myself I would be interested if you have found it to be the same quality as in the past.

I've been using it for the last 5 years or so without issues... not got any fresh yet this year.. :-X

I've been using it for years and already got 'fresh batch' bought in..no problems with it and those bags that I've already used have been nice..no woody stuff at all.

Using 'verve' compost from B & Q. Good stuff. Will use again. 3 bags for a tenner.

I'm using the Lidl seed and cutting compost (99p for a 20 litre bag seems ok for price and the little bag makes easier handling (especially when they're full of rubbish from the shed whenI'm throwing them away :D)... Germination seems OK so far... not too sure about its water retention though equally it is on heated propagation kit...

iv'e used wickes multipurpose compost for the last 3 years and found it very good.this year i was very dissapointed.last year they were 75 ltr bags,4 for £13.this year same price but 70 ltr.after opening 1 i found that it was full of mashed up railway sleepers twigs and even fragments f broken glass.needless to say ,it all went back.so it's back to Humax.

I had a delivery of Clover MPC recently & the chap that delivered said that Humax is another good make but haven't seen it sold locally. I do have plenty of Clover though. That was thanks to Manics who put me on to it a few years ago.

I've just had a look at Wickes web site re compost. I was going to suggest it to someone. It doesn't say anything about seed sowing & it contains 50%peat +50% wood fibre. Hope everyone finds it ok ;D.

Well..it must be that somebody else got my share of the 50% wood fibre as my bags look like all peat to me.. ;D
I bought bag of Wickes 'peat free' compost last year to try and that was awful..I did get my share of wood fibre and more.. ::)

I just had a look at Wickes site and you are right...there should be woodfibres that mine doesn't have. This new 'formula' has had bad reviews as well. Now I wonder if my compost that I bought is still with the 'old recipe'. In which case I'll be off Wickes to buy some more before the 'new stuff' hits the shelfs!

I have been having the following thoughts for a long time what do you think?
Producers/Suppliers are reducing the fertiliser content in composts to cut costs unknown to us, because unlike fertilsers, they don't have to display the NPK or list the fertiliser content!
The other thing is; have the catered for the increased nitrogen that is needed to rot the various forms of cr*p they are putting in the mixes (recipes) or do the expect seedlings to compete for what ever amount of nitrogen there is in the mix?
The mind boggles :o ::)

Wikes looks far too coarse for seedlings. Maybe that's why they've had to put in extra/more abrasive fertilizer to counteract it. Don't think I'd buy either, I'm not rich but I've learnt to buy the best i can find or it all becomes a waste of time and money. :(
I like Westlands, and Levingtons usually deliver what it says [or doesn't say ] on the bag... ::)
