Title: The Glastonbury Hawthorn

I would love to have a cutting off one of it,s descendants or a few berries . Any ideas anyone ?  The tree was seriously vandalised last year ,does anyone know if it is regrowing ?  Debs    :)

Hi Woodypecks, I cant help with finding you cuttings or seeds Im afraid. I just wanted to agree with your sentiments re the vandalisation >:(. I dont get why folk have to do this and in such a spiritual place as well.

Im sure the Hawthorn will regrow if it hasn't been broken off too low down :).

I agree with you Star, one can't understand such vandalisim.

I am lucky enough to be sitting looking at my vase that someone bought me donkey years ago from there with a real leaf from that  very tree impressed in to it.

It took me some time to understand why someone has bought your donkey a vase. ;D ;D

A sprig of the tree is sent every year to the Queen perhaps she managed to get one to root.

another vote here for the "donkey owning vase scenario".  ;D All sounds very Biblical

here's a bit on the Thorn. Kind of confusing how old or original they are

edit : the donkey owns the vase, not donkey-owning vase. That would be silly

 Yes Digeroo ...I wonder if the Queen rushes to get out the hormone rooting powder , compost ,sharp grit and plastic bag with rubberband ...as I would do !    ::)   Debbie

According to the Wikipedia article, it has to be grafted or it reverts to the normal type. It seems that other trees exist, so it would be perfectly possible to do it, given a hawthorn seedling and scion wood from one of the trees.
