Title: Crown Prince how many per stem?
Post by: two sheds on July 14, 2011, 21:10:25
Hi All,

Not much of a poster but a long time lurker!  Would appreciate some advice re my crown prince squash.  Should I restrict the number of pumpkins and if so how many, also does it make any difference if I take off every other one or should i just chop off at the end of the stem?

Ta

Julie

Hi
I've grown these for the last few years, and mostly only get 2 or 3 per plant, that fully mature. I only pinch out the growing tip when I'm sure the fruit are growing well, usually sometime in August.

Be interesting to see what others do  :)

Thanks for that, usually get the same as you but I notice that on one stem there are about 10 flowers..on that same stem is a pumpkin about 4 inches in diameter, I think i usually chop the ends off but might leave it this year and see what i get :)

sounds encouraging, mine are way behind yours!
I love them but I don't seem to manage more than 3 per plant. I wonder why that is?

Same here with 2 to 3 per plant - they're so massive and hard to chop up wouldn't want any more. Read somewhere that pinching out growing tip in August is good idea.
