that's good - half an hour always seemed too short. trouble is - I've got to record it for my sister as she's moving to spain soon - so it'll take up more tapes, but at least she'll get to watch it sooner!

an hour!! good-oh! but........chris beardshaw is leaving this year! i could not believe it, being replaced by joe swift and carol klein. chris was my favourite presenter, liked his approach of 'right plants for right places' in the flying gardener.
i shall have to restrain myself from making further comment i think!

Kerry - oh NO. I cannot stand Joe Swift. Mr Aqui found GW just about bearable, but with Joe Swift, he will not be happy. I can see him taking an awful long time to do the washing up on Friday evenings.

What, no gorgeous Beardshaw to keep me entertained.  Bad enough having to put up with that  woman and monty!!  Carol Klein will be okay, altho I do find she has one of those voices that grates on me a little, but I do like her cottagey type feely gardening.  Hmmmmmmmmm, may loose a viewer in this part of Essex.

hohoho EJ! you have said it for me! 'that woman'. teehee indeed ;)
i am teased a lot about my feelings about above person by father and OH-they don't particularly like her either, but do like to wind me up!

OH has just appeared around corner to ask me what i'm looking so pleased about, so i told him about your comment. ;)

here it is copied from the bbc boards....

It is true that Chris Beardshaw will be leaving GW later in the year for pastures new but he is not disappearing just yet and will be appearing on the programme well into the spring months. The good news is that Monty Don and Rachel de Thame will also be joined by 2 new presenters this year, Joe Swift and Carol Klein who are both looking forward immensely to starting work at Berryfields

I am really looking forward to GW's return.  I too like Chris Beardshaw and will be sorry to see him go.  Have mixed feelings about Joe Swift but will see how he goes, and don't know much about Carol Klein.  Just hoping the extra 1/2 hour means more time will be spent on veggie growing, or is that being too optimistic?   ;D busy_lizzie

Hi BL it seems they will be doing veggie growing but not every week.
I cannot stand that carol kliene she has such a whinging voice just hope her part each week is quite small. ::)

GW just wont be the same without CB!  :'(
I do like Monty though, & I like Joe Swift. I'm not sure about Carol Klein. I can't remember what she looks like, but I do remember her voice.  :-\
I still haven't made my mind up about Rachele de Tame (sp?)
Does anyone know what CB will be doing instead? I heard he's going over to either C4 or C5. Does that mean there will be no more Flying Gardener?

Ah Bun, he will be totally unavailable to do anymore TV work as he will be locked away in my wardrobe!  ;D ;) ;D

Where did we get the idea that it was going to be for an hour this year?

All the magazine says is that it will be on at 8pm instead of 830pm. No mention of a new length. I would have thought there'd be some great fanfare about it if it was the case.

Please dont all build your hopes up too much.

I too am not sure about Joe Swift rejoining the programme, though I have recently been watching a new programme of his on UKTV Style called 'Garden Makers' and i think I might be getting used to him a bit now. Carol Klien will be good on GW though.

I think this must be a first for A4ALL. Discussing a specific gardening programme.

On the TV Gardening message board on the BBC website it says there will be hour long programmes from May to mid-June.  This was posted by a BBC host, so I imagine he is right.  Hope this helps.

Post by: Garden Manager on February 03, 2005, 12:55:15
Tulip - yes i looked on there too and found that.

Its just the original posting seemed to suggest that ALL  the programmes wee to be an hour long this series, but there was no mention of it elsewhere.

No mention of the BBC, or any other source for that matter.  I assume you saw the post on the BBC board subsequently?

I saw Weekend Gardeners on digital the other day. Have you ever noticed CB's arms. Those are good arms. (It's just a shame he's so fair, otherwise I'd be joining the fan club!)

And GW is back the Friday after my birthday, what a lovely present from the BBC!

Hi Girls

Can I join in a throw a spanner in the works?   ;)

Monty and Chris are OK, although I think Monty is a bit of a stunt gardener (knows nothing and gets others to do the hard bits, like growing the things), and Rachel really only provides interest for the male viewer

BUT

Sarah Raven really needs to go.  I rellay want to burn that old cardigan and wellies she wears :P

It's funny, but I rather warmed to SR. Even Mr Aqui finds her excentrically amusing. I'm even beginning to like Monty a bit more too. They really do need more down-to-earth gardeners, though. Although not the "albatros stuck up his nose" of JS - as Mr Aqui described him this morning.

Oh I am with you 100% Loz.  Monty drives me mad, the women are possibly worse!  Chris is the only reason to tune in as to be honest, like with the mags, after watching it since I was a wee one, things just seem to get repeated and repeated and repeated.

Title: Re: GARDENERS WORLD

Alan's grown on me a bit too now. His enthusiasm and passion for plants is really infectious. I've never seen Bob on tele, but like what I've read of his and he's good on GQT (when I remember to tune in for it!) Pippa is great.

So my dream GW presenters would be:
Bob and Pippa (just doing organic veg), CB building stuff and digging, Alan talking about ornamentals, Sarah Raven doing her excentricity stuff, and JS being shot. ;D

This gets better!!!!

I forgot about ol' Bob.  Good all round knowledge, an appreciation of chickens (!) and full of ideas about how easy it is to grow unusual stuff.................

(Mind you I'd loose the dodgy pony tail and rubber tyres)

Loz

Aquilegia I agree with you for the dream team, but would put SR on the compost heap b4 shooting JS  ;)

great news its back soon, shame chris is going but phew.... Rachel is staying ;D (yes she gets the bloke vote!!)

didn't know who Joe Swift was so just googled him....
1st entry  -  UKTV style  - under 'celebrity'  -- not a good start i fear
so i followed the link for his new show which is a "a makeover show where spectacular transformations are completed in real time"

oh dear :(
(and thats before i hear that 'voice'!)

No EJ. I remember plenty of debates on the BBC boards. Now they really were aggro!  >:(

Just dont want to repeat the experience on here thats all. :'(

If you really want debate on GW presenters (incuding my opinions on the new additions) look here:

I just had a quick peek and it looked more like an "Over the garden fence" chat. ???

I think Joe Swift comes across as an easy going warm and friendly gardening presenter and easy to listen too, Rachel de Thame on the other hand has either a deep voice or her microphone is planted too deep into her chest cleavage and sounds muffled (IMO). :o

Monty D could be a good replacement from Alan T and a refreshing change.
I’m quite looking forward to seeing this new group of gardeners can’t say as I’ve seen much of Carol Klein (does she make jewellery also?). ??? ;D

Have just found this thread............Chris didn't tell me he was leaving GW, and him being locked in my loft for the winter months, you'd have thought he would have mentioned summit! :o
He says he will nip round to see you girls as soon as he has gathered his strength back ;)
I for one cannot stand some of these TV presenters, often a case of the right place at the right time, and not what but who you know methinks!
Quite like Monty and his passion for organic, R de T drives me bonkers, I am sure she is a very nice person, but just somehow never looks like a gardener, I just cannot imagine her knee deep in horse pooh!
JS is ok but can grate as can CK. I think they all get overexposed as celeb tv gardeners, (throw Charlie Dimmock in here to) and quite frankly you get sick of seeing them all in EVERY gardening programme! Bring on newbies I say!!!
(the same go's for the cookery progs, I am fed right up with seeing Nigella, Jamie et al!)
Now..............wheres that fireman in the wardrobe gone??...................DP
