Title: strawberries being taken - by what?

Something has taken about two dozen strawberries and put them under a plastic sheet that I have covering a bale of straw.
I am guessing mice or squirrels. What do you think?
There are plots with carpet down killing weeds, and we are in close proximity to large areas of woodland that have squirrels.
