Title: Pea disease? Affecting my pods
Post by: antipodes on June 06, 2011, 12:35:45
Hi all,
No i didn't take a  photo unfortunately but I have a problem with my peas. Some of them seem to be getting some disease on the pods. In fact it takes the form of a type of silver sheen that appears on the outside of the pods, but doesn't seem to affect the fruit inside over much. It does seem to make the pods bend over though. The leaves seem unaffected.
Is this some kind of mildew? Is there anything I can do to prevent it spreading to the next patch?

That sounds like pea thrips..not desease but little 2mm long insects that cause the silvery trouble on the surface of the pod. Usually they are most troublesome in hot and dry summers. There is not much you can do about it if you are not using chemicals.. ::)

Oh the little Bartsards! I was thinking more of a mold! Sounds like they don't spread much to other plants though.... funny, I have grown peas every year and this is the first time I have had this!
