Title: What's this poo - don't look if you're squeamish!
Post by: Squash64 on April 07, 2011, 13:53:11
[attachment=1]

I've been finding little poos near where I feed the cats at the pavilion.  I know they aren't cat poo, but does anyone know if they could be hedgehog?
It's about one to one and a half inches long.

 :D - black toothpaste!

The cats' water bowl is often dirty as though something has been in it, and there have been little bits of poo in their dried food dish.

I'm glad it's a hedgehog

They love chopped peanuts but it's keeping them away from the birds that's the problem.

I was hoping it wasn't, judging by the size of it.  I thought fox poo might be more or less like my dogs do.  It doesn't have that disgusting smell either.

What a lovely subject!

fox poo is a bit more pointy at the end!

I wouldn't have thought it was fox as they do quite a packet and it's quite often a bit sloppy  ;D

I wouldn't know if I have ever seen hedgehog poo but you could always ask Mrs Tiggy-Winkles who take in hedgehogs they would know for sure.

I've become quite an expert on dogs poo as I am always looking at Alfie's ( my puppy dogs) ;D ;D ;D

I'm fairly certain that is Hedgehog, and not fox. Fox stinks... but hedgehog can be relatively longer than that and not as wide... maybe that hedgehog needs to take more water with it...  ;D

fox poo generally has fur in it, and this is the way I have always ID'd it - and yes it has a pointy (and furry) end

Yep if it was fox poo you would know immediately by the smell! Many a time I have gone to the plot before work and trodden in some only to realise once I was in our air conditioned office with no windows...

Thanks for all the replies - I'm amazed that there has been so much interest and I've had to laugh at some of them!

I took up Sinbad's suggestion and contacted a hedgehog rescue and they confirmed that it is hedgehog poo.  The very nice lady who runs it is going to send me information about looking after hedgehogs.

Walsall Road allotments must have something very special about it.

A happy lot of plot holders all getting on, beautiful feral cats getting tamer by the week and now Hedgehogs too.

If only you could find a tortoise I'd come and get on your waiting list  ;D ;D ;D

Well done Betty, for finding out about the poo and running such a great site.

I'm beginning to wonder what will turn up next.  I don't think I would cope with a panther or unicorn but you never know....... ;)

Kev, that would be much better than panthers and unicorns!

Would you really come?   You've got to now you've mentioned it.  Just wait till Shirl reads this!

I just had to look.

Ao, I love hedgehogs and we don't get them here.

Now if you fancy some coyote, bear or cougar I may be able to get some of that to show you we do have those.

Great post, I was expecting a picture full of worm filled poo.

Jeannine, I think I'll pass on the coyote, bear and cougar, thanks.  ;)

I do actually have a photo of worms that one of the cats thoughtfully left for me but it's too nasty to put on here.  :o

Are there no hedgehogs in Canada, or just not in your area?

Now that would be a meeting worth flying over for!!

No hedgehogs, porcupines further south I think but I am not sure. We got snakes too, quite a lot on the plots but not nasty ones in this area, have to travel a couple of hundred miles to find those.

By the way, I do have access to a Red Hat group now, I am seriously thinking of joining, I have wanted to  for years.

Yeah, I'll come up with you Kev, but it's a long way just to have a crap at the pavilion. We could make a few bob if we kidnapped the spikey flea bitten grumble and grunt.

I can tell you with absolute certainty that it's Burmese Python, around 30 foot long from the look of it. Do keep an eye out when you're on the plot  ;D

How funny, was just having a read of this thread while hubby was outside doing a bit of Sunday morning weeding, went outside with him for a chat and he says to me "just come and have a look at these two pieces of poo by the convervatory door and  and tell me what animal did that"

I bent down, had a squint and was able to impress hubby by identifying it as hedgehog poo  ;D

We have a very large HH passing through our garden. I was filling the bird feeders yesterday & there was a piece the length of my first finger & almost as thick.
Wonderful. I must crush some more peanuts.
