Title: Willow tree gets the chop

The willow tree at the allotments had a good prune yesterday, plenty of wood chip.

Beware fresh willow wood chip.   I used some after similar nearby willows along the neighbouring stream were chopped a few years ago and ended up with willows rooting and shooting up all over the garden.

I am encouraging willow here....I sawed down a little tree that appeared on the corner of my plot 2 years ago, and I'm calling it "coppicing". My son made a clumsy fence out of hazel branches, and his wife wove and plaited the willow shoots to fill in the fence and support my raspberries. I like it.

It does look a bit sad, think they chop it every two years and it soon grows back.

:D  I can remember when we took one down at the bottom of my folks garden.... the twigs that fell over the fence all seem to have rooted.... we left the shreddings for 9 months... they were all dead by then but it was a fabulous mulch....
