Title: Can you help me id this plant - need it for an essay...
Post by: landrover79 on January 05, 2005, 14:38:38
Hi,

Here is a fairly boring photo of a plant with lobed leaves. Found it in a meadow (usually sunny place but it was a wet winter day when I took the photo). I am new to this plant id game and as there is no sexy flowers, I am having difficulty identifying it by leaves alone. If anyone can help that would be great.

Gee that was quick. As a newcomer to the board, I had just posted the question and wondered if I would get any answer...

Thanks jerry. I will have a look at various types of cranesbill...

Probably Geranium pratense.

Hi Paul
I would agree with both Jerry and Palustris, it looks like Geranium pratense also known as meadow crane's bill.

Thanks gents for the replies. Look's definitely like a crane's bill. Because of the leaf shape, I am leaning more towards Geranium molle.
Before now grass was grass and weeds were weeds. Now I am interested in pastures and meadows. Sad I know - probably a mid-life crisis thing... :D

You could well be correct. It is not always easy to see the diagnostic features needed in a photograph.
