Title: What causes these white spots on raspberry fruits, please?

Each little cell is white not just the surface.
The remainder of the berry seems fine.

I looked this up a couple of years ago. It can be cuased by scorching by the sun (if its on the side of the fruit facing full sun) or by insects feeding when the fruit is young (randomwhite drupelets anywhere on the fruit). Happens on blackberries too.

We've had some new insects around, so maybe that is it.

If I remeber rightly the damage is done by shield bugs, do you call them stink bugs? I think I had to look that up as Id not heard of stink bugs in the UK.

Hi,

I have lots of shield bugs of different colours  in my raspberries but none of these white spots on the fruit.

Bad stink bugs on ours and they're shaped like shields. Also yellowjackets which I think you call wasps- yellow rings around their bodies and vicious- get very upset by any movement near them and come after me, bad stingers. Put me into anaphylactic shock. But the raspberries are tasting great.

It could be sun scald I guess. Seems to be on the big berries. Will have to check tomorrow if they are shaded or not. Thank you again for the ideas.

Your yellowjackets are basically the same as our wasps, but they're different species. You make them sound a lot more defensive; I've shared my shed with wasps' nests several times, and never been stung once.
