near enough Bugloss, but my money would be on a kumquat, It could be it has two names. I have  one in my garden and have always refered to it as a kumquat and have never been corrected. I got mine as a seedling when I was on holiday in Montpelier, They where growing wild down there.

We have trouble in windy weather and it needs to be well staked as the big evergreen leaves do catch the wind. When in bloom the scent is to die for.

doesn't a kumquat have smooth leaves, and a loquat have ribbed leaves? That's got ribbed leaves i'm thinking, and the fruit looks more like a loquat (not that i've ever seen one  ;D )

i'm OK with me quats, i just have trouble with me los and me kums

I have a medlar too.  You can have it if you want it!  It's for good reason that the French call the fruit dog's arse.

No, it's not a medlar.

HA HA! Yeah, in French it's scientifically called a Nefle. (which doesn't literally mean... oh forget it...) but I think they are called the other too!  ;D ;D
I think they are kind of foul, but I thought the fruit looked similar, was a bit of a wild guess. The fruit are eaten here by many of the North African population and occasionally by my OH but I find them quite yukky myself.
