Title: photo of Bangladeshi chilli today
Post by: Squash64 on June 29, 2010, 17:29:30

This is the chilli plant given to me as a tiny seedling last year by the Bangladeshi plotholders.  It's a lovely shape, slightly trailing and I keep it on my kitchen windowsill.

...............and this is the one grown from your seeds! There are lots of flower buds on it but no fruit as yet. I have taken it out of the GH where it was getting overshadowed by other plants.

It's looking good Tricia, thanks for sending the photo.  :)
I'm sure once it's in the sunshine it will start having buds.  Are you going to leave it outside, or put it on a sunny windowsill?

It's on the south facing steps just outside the GH door so I can pop it back inside at night if the weather turns too wet. At the moment I'm watering pretty much all my plants every day because of the lack of rain and feeding them every four days.

If I can I shall over-winter the plant on my east facing kitchen window sill, but here in the south-west we don't usually get any frosts till quite late in the year so it can stay outside or in the GH until there is a frost warning.

Your plant looks so much more lush than mine - I'm quite envious  :).

maybe I should start another thread -

but do people here keep their outdoor chilis in full sun, or slightly shaded? Some of mine look like they could do with a dose of Factor 15. The Aji type ones I think; i'll have to check

Mine started off last year as a tiny seedling and has been growing ever since. It has lots of 'sticking-up' chillies, about half an inch long.  They start off a milky white colour and turn red.

It started looking a bit sad about a month ago and when I checked, the roots had completely filled the pot so I potted it on to a larger size.  It has really picked up since.

It looks great, Betty. Are you going to cook with them?

How can we tell whether a chilli is that type?

I am hoping mine is - I sowed them for the first time this year, only one germinated and it's a weedy little thing so far. If it's an annual then we can forget it!

Which chilli did you sow - the California Wonders?  I had 100% germination from the ones you sent me.

I can't remember and I haven't got the packet. I sowed some and sent the rest to my mum.

Have I sent you chilli seeds? I don't remember that at all! Must be losing me marbles.

Hey Betty - look how well my bangladeshi is doing now 8).I brought it indoors a week or so ago. It is now on a table in my bedroom facing east and looking really good. I wanted to isolate it from all the other peppers so I can save seeds - it can stay there for the duration.

Wow! What a lovely plant!
Even if people don't eat chillies (like me) the plant is just so attractive that it's worth growing just as a houseplant.

Mine is still doing well on the kitchen windowsill and my husband really likes the chillies.  He says they are quite hot but not like the Congo Trinidad which made my son in law's ears hurt!

Thanks for sharing  :)

These look a lot like "Prairie Fire", a variety I've got growing on my west-facing kitchen windowsill ... definitely on the "warm" side   :o

My plant is now in it's second summer, grown from seed saved from a plant we had growing on the desk at work. I had two plants, but the other just gave up and died about February time, so they're not 100% reliable for a second season, but well worth trying. This one is certainly cropping earlier this year than it did last year, a nice "fruity" tang, but well worthy of an amount of respect ...  it has a bite out of all proportion to it's size !
